Angulimala, the Kannada movie directed by writer Bargur Ramachandrappa, has been selected for the 3rd annual Rafi Peer Film Festival of Pakistan. The festival, organized by the Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop, will be held from December 27-29 in Lahore. The movie is produced by BK Srinivas. Festival curator Muhammad Umar Saeed said the Workshop is a unique cultural organization that has devoted the past four decades to promoting the performing arts, both in Pakistan and across the globe.

According to Bargur, the movie has also been selected for the International Forum of Cinema section of the Kolkata International Film Festival, from November 10-17. "Angulimala was basically a dacoit. Buddha reforms him, makes him quit himsa (violence) and brings him to the path of ahimsa (non-violence). After studying books on Angulimala, I've given him a contemporary interpretation. He was a terror at that time and kings found it difficult to nab him. There is terrorism even now. I've shown him in the present-day context. It is a period film.''

The movie has Saikumar donning the role of Angulimala and Raghu Mukherjee as Buddha. Other artistes include Jayanthi, Mukhyamantri Chandru, Vathsala Mohan, Girija Lokesh and Hamsa.
