PK Controversy |
PK controversy: Censor board member now claims he objected to a few scenes
After becoming the first film in Bollywood to touch the 300 crore mark, PK controversy is still not over yet. Now a film censor board member Monday claimed to have objected to some of the scenes of the Aamir Khan-starrer "PK" ahead of the film's release but they were ignored. According to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) member Satish Kalyankar, he had raised the objection over some scenes before the board's CEO but the latter paid no heed to his concerns.
Some members of the censor board Monday visited the ashram of Shankaracharya Swaroopanand Saraswati of Dwarakpeeth who has sought the Rajkumar Hirani directed film "PK" should be banned for having hurt sentiments of some in the Hindu community.
Talking to reporters in the presence of Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati here, Kalyankar said he had sought a meeting to register his objection before the censor board CEO, failing which he conveyed his concerns in writing to him. But the scenes were not deleted. Kalyankar, also a member of the film screening committee, said that the film certainly violates the already laid rules, one of which requires that a film should not contain such scenes or dialogues that hurt any community's religious sentiments.
Films can be publicly exhibited in India only after they have been certified by the CBFC.

Hrithik Roshan Voted Sexiest Asian Man In UK |
Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan has been voted the world's sexiest Asian man for the third time in four years.
The 40-year-old actor reclaimed the crown, which he lost last year, in the 11th edition of the '50 Sexiest Asian Men In The World' list produced annually by Britain's weekly newspaper 'Eastern Eye'. Television actor Kushal Tandon was the surprise runner up in this year's list and last year's winner Ali Zafar slipped to third place on the ratings released here on Wednesday. TV actor Vivian D'Sena, who made it into the top 10 for the first time, was fourth in a record-breaking year that saw more than 10 million votes cast in all.
"Thank you 'Eastern Eye'. I am humbled by the desirable tag. I believe sexy is less to do with the physical and more to do with the mental perspective on life, others and yourself," Hrithik said. "Do good, never please, know your worth, walk your path, have a sense of humour, be the giver, be self-sufficient and contribute with power to all around. Sexy is as sexy does. Create your own sexy!"
'Eastern Eye' showbiz editor Asjad Nazir, founder of the list and chair of the judging panel, believes Hrithik is on his way to become India's first global cinematic superstar. "The reason why Hrithik is regularly voted top is that he ticks all the boxes. He is a talented actor, is the best dancer in Bollywood, has arguably the best physique and has the kind of humility that connects him to the everyday individual," Nazir said.
The win rounded off a roller-coaster year for the actor that saw him star in one of the year's biggest hits 'Bang Bang' and his amicable divorce from wife Sussanne Khan. Actor Fawad Khan was in seventh position. Others stars in the top 10 include Shahid Kapoor (5), Barun Sobti (6), Ranbir Kapoor (8) and Salman Khan (10). Indian TV stars dominated the 2014 list including actor Ashish Sharma (14) who followed up his stunning win on reality TV show 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7' by being the highest placed newcomer. Other TV stars in the list included Gurmeet Choudhary (11), Karan Singh Grover (12), Karan Tacker (16), Kunwar Amar (17), Harshad Arora (19), Gautam Rode (20), Rithvik Dhanjani (21) and Aham Sharma (27). Virat Kohli (38) is the only sportsman in the list again. Other notable names in the list include Shah Rukh Khan (13), Sidharth Malhotra (15), Arjun Kapoor (18), Ranveer Singh (22), singer Arjun (31), Atif Aslam (40) and Suriya (50).
The 2014 full list will be published in Eastern Eye this Friday.

Shah Rukh Khan Stopped Entering His House |
SHAH RUKH KHAN WAS STOPPED FROM ENTERING HIS HOUSE BY HIS OWN SECURITY PERSONNEL
Life isn't very superstar-size when you are Shah Rukh Khan and you are stopped from entering your own house by security guards.
However, this isn't as dreadful as it sounds. SRK was simply shooting a scene for his new film Fan, directed by Band Baaja Baaraat's Maneesh Sharma.
SRK, marking time as a stay-at-home dad of sorts, was filming outside his Bandra bungalow, Mannat. The real-life superstar plays the fan of a reel-life superstar in the film. The sequence shot is reportedly the opening scene of Fan in which SRK's character queues up at the gate of his idol's home hoping to wish him on his birthday.
Shah Rukh, who was dressed in a simple checked-shirt and jeans, was seen arguing with security personnel, trying to catch a glimpse of his favourite actor. However, there was no making it past the guard.
Shah Rukh's youngest son AbRam, who is a little over a year old, was also present at the shooting and was in his nanny's care at all times. He looked absorbed in proceedings.

South Remakes in Bollywood: Will Salman Khan's 'Kick' Repeat Success of Original Version in Telugu?
The success of "Holiday – A Solider is Never Off Duty" has once again proved that remakes of South Indian films are a safe bet for big Bollywood stars like Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. Remaking south films in Bollywood and vice versa has been a trend followed for many years. But, for the last few years, there seems to be an increase in the number of south films getting remade in Hindi with big stars in the lead. Interestingly, most of these films have set the cash registers ringing. Aamir Khan's 2008-release "Ghajini," remake of a Tamil film with the same name, was one of the biggest hits of Bollywood cinema. The action entertainer, directed by AR Murugadoss, earned more than ₹100 crore at the Indian box office. Apparently, it was "Ghajini" that started the ₹100 crore club.
Salman Khan, who was going through a rough phase, made a comeback with the crime action killer "Wanted," which was a remake of Vijay's "Pokkiri." The film reportedly broke many records at the box office in 2009. Since then, the actor has starred in several south remakes including "Ready", "Bodyguard" and "Jai Ho." His upcoming film "Kick," touted to be an action comedy entertainer, is also a south remake. Askhay Kumar has also starred in a few south remakes which have performed well at the box office. His masala action entertainer "Rowdy Rathore" and the recently-released "Holiday" are in the ₹100 crore club. Ajay Devgn, who has starred in remakes like "Son of Sardar" and "Singham" also tasted success with both the films. What makes these remakes work in Bollwood? The remakes work because of the presence of big stars. "The remakes of south films are getting highlighted now because of big stars here. As big Bollywood heroes are doing these films, this space (of remakes) is getting established further," actor-director Prabhu Deva, who has done three south remakes in Bollywood was quoted saying by the Press Trust of India at an event held last year.
The content of these remakes appeal to the audience even though critics give average reviews for them. Take "Holiday" for instance – the film fetched mixed feedback from the critics, but audience has given big thumbs up. The Akshay Kumar-Sonakshi Sinha starrer is still running successfully in theatres even after three weeks of its release. The stupendous of these films have made more Bollywood filmmakers to remake south films.
Check below the list of upcoming Bollywood films which are remakes of south entertainers.
"Kick" – Salman Khan's most-awaited "Kick" is a remake of the Telugu film with the same name. The film, directed by Sajid Nadiadwala, has Jacqueline Fernandez, Randeep Hooda, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Saurabh Shukhla in pivotal roles. The film is set for Eid release.
It remains to be seen if "Kick" turns out to be another successful film in Salman Khan's career. The film's first look and trailer have received fantastic response from fans and have raised the expectations among them. The action entertainer is slated to hit screens during Eid festival, which is considered as a lucky period for Salman. Will "Kick" impress the audience and reprise the success of the original version? Only time will tell.
"Tevar" – Amit Sharma's film is a remake of Telugu hit "Okkadu." The film has Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead roles.
"Gabbar" – Akshay Kumar will be seen in yet another south remake. The film, directed by Krish, is a remake of Tamil blockbuster film "Ramana."
Besides these films, remake of Tamil films including "Soodhu Kavvum", "Pizza" and "Vettai" are also in the pipeline. There are also reports claiming that the recently-released blockbuster flick "Manam" will be remade in Hindi. Reliance Entertainment, the co-producers of "Manam" are said to be interested in making the Hindi version, reported Sakshipost. Buzz is that Amitabh Bachchan might be reprising ANR's role. However, an official announcement regarding the project is still awaited.

Malayalam Actor Dileep Files For Divorce From Wife Manju Warrier |
Manju got married to Malayalam actor Dileep on 20 October 1998 at Aluva Sri Krishna Temple. The couple have a daughter, Meenakshi. Dileep and Manju had filed for divorce in 2014.
Malayalam film actor Dileep has approached a family court here seeking divorce from his actress wife Manju Warrier, who had made a comeback with recently released ‘How Old are You ?’. The actor has also reportedly filed another petition, seeking an in camera trial and non disclosure of the matters raised in his petition to the media.
The petition is expected to come up for hearing on July 23 and the two have been asked to be present in court in person on that day. The two have been living separately for the past few months. Dileep in his petition stated that the news and social media had been publishing reports in the past one year that the respondent (Manju Warrier) and he had separated and that a divorce petition was likely to be filed.
Now that he had filed this original petition seeking divorce, there was every possibility for the media to publish sensational reports about the same, he said. “The matrimonial issues between the respondent and myself are a very personal matter. To protect and prevent trial by the media and for proper conduct of proceedings before this court, it is necessary to conduct in camera trial’, he stated. Manju, who left films after her marriage to Dileep, made a comeback with Roshan Andrews ‘How Old Are You?’, which is now being screened in theatres. The film has already collected Rs 3.35 crore in the first week itself.
Dileep has also reportedly filed another petition, seeking an in camera trial and non disclosure of the matters raised in his petition to the media.

South Actress Bhavana Menon Interview |
Bhavana Menon Interview
When you entered the industry, there were very few youth oriented films in Malayalam. But nowadays every film seems to be youth centric. What do you have to say about the trend?
I came into the industry through the film Nammal, which had four youngsters. It was one of the films that started off the trend. I was a part of plenty more, like Swapnakkoodu, Chadikkatha Chanthu, Lollypop, Robinhood etc. I don't think there has been such a huge change over the years. The recent movies that I did, Ezhamathe Varavu, Honeybee, Polytechnic and now, Angry Babies are all different in their own way. I have been lucky to have done all kinds of roles and escaped any kind of stereotyping.
Why do you do just one or two films a year?
When I'm approached for a film, I look at the whole team, the director, producer etc. Even if I'm okay with the team, I wouldn't do a film unless I like the story and script and vice-versa too. I've left out big projects at times because of this. But I have absolutely no issues with new directors. Many of the films I have done are with newbies.
Your looks have evolved beyond recognition over the past 10 years... I did my first film at the age of 15, when I had no idea about make-up or styling or fashion. I wasn't bothered about them for many years and also, no senior actress ever told me that I should change. Even those who I asked for help never supported me. It was maybe at the age of 19-20 that I myself realised that I should change. I educated myself and learnt everything about fitness, make-up and style, all by myself. And now, when young girls ask me tips and tricks, I am so glad they ask and am only happy to help them.
In your latest release, Angry Babies, your co-star is Anoop Menon, again... How do you explain the coincidence? Anoop and I had already acted in Trivandrum Lodge, where the chemistry worked out really well. As a co-star, I feel very comfortable with Anoop ettan, more than comfortable, actually.
You revealed that you are in a relationship... With many Malayalam actresses getting married recently, don't you feel like taking the leap?
Yes, I am seeing someone but I can't say at this point where it's going or whether it will lead to marriage. If at all I marry, I plan to do so next year. But I feel it is better to get married when I am ready for it, not because others are doing it or under pressure from society or other people. I never take any decision that way. Because if there are any problems, none of these people will be there; there will be just me and my family to face it. At the end of the day, I live for myself, not for others. I will listen to everyone but the final decision will be mine.
What about the whole debate on whether actresses should act after marriage?
Do you see any actor stopping acting after marriage? The film industry is not something dirty that you should stop acting after you marry. Having said that, it is each person's personal decision, I feel. I have always maintained that I will never say goodbye to films completely. Kajol, Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai and Sreedevi have all done good roles after marriage. If I get good roles, I too will definitely take them up. Not that I will do anything and everything which comes my way, but then, I don't do that now either. If I get offered a film which I like, which I feel I shouldn't miss, I will I do it, just like now.
And I will marry only someone who recognises acting as my profession and someone who will encourage me and support me to do a good film, like a good friend, not a narrow-minded person who thinks on the lines of - from now on, stay at home and look after me and do nothing else.
Is there anything like you won't marry someone from the film industry... If I fall in love with an actor or filmmaker, what's wrong with it? Cinema is something I have been doing since age 15. And whatever anyone says, I have never had even one bad experience with the industry. I really love this profession; it has given me everything, made me what I am. So I have absolutely no aversion towards people from the film industry. I would love a person for the human being he is; on the basis of his personality, not on the basis of his profession.
What are you working on next?
I will be doing two Malayalam films and one Kannada film this year, but the official agreement is not over yet.

Shahid Kapoor is working on his private beach garden |
Yes, you read that headline right. It is known that Shahid Kapoor recently acquired a spacious and elegant ground-floor home alongside the Juhu beach.
His new apartment is in the same building where Vidya Balan resides. It's one of the prime properties along the beach side in Juhu. The advantage Shahid has over the other residents of the building is that his apartment reportedly comes with approximately 2000 sq.cm of private beach area.
Though the actor continues to reside in Versova, where he is ex-girlfriend Priyanka Chopra's neighbour, his current preoccupation is converting his beach space into a private garden.
Sources say they have seen Shahid pouring over books and listening to experts on the whole process of "making his garden", because he intends to personally supervise every minute detail. He is not planning to take any shortcuts by handing over the job to a professional and coming to a ready home someday. Sasha intends to be hands-on when his new home is being done.

Actress Isha Talwar Interview, Profile |
I want to be an actor someday: Isha Talwar
Isha Talwar Profile (Biography)
Film actress
Isha Talwar is an Indian film and television actress. After she worked as a model and appeared in various commercial, she made her film debut with the 2012 Malayalam film Thattathin Marayathu.
Born: December 22, 1987 (age 26), Mumbai
Parents: Vinod Talwar
Education: St. Xavier's College-Autonomous, Mumbai
Awards: Asianet Film Award for Best Star Pair
Isha Talwar Interview
After playing the hero's best friend's love interest in Gundejari Gallanthayyinde, Isha Talwar is back. This time as the main love interest of the protagonist Pradeep in Maine Pyar Kiya, a romantic entertainer. The actress assures, "It's a complete romantic film that's sure to leave the audience feeling all mushy inside." It is quite different from the kind of films she's done in Malayalam where she's "experimented with roles like an air hostess, a mother, a post-woman," to name a few.
"It's great to get to try different kind of roles in Mollywood," says the petite actress, who is playing Shalini, who happens to be a childhood friend of Naveen Chintapandu played by Pradeep. "When sparks begin to fly between them, it comes with some inherent awkwardness.
Discovering that you are in love with your childhood pal can be very bizarre. It is weird to fall in love with a childhood buddy isn't it? You're not supposed to fall in love ideally and it's very confusing and a lot of us would have gone through that confusion... it's really a fine line and that's something that many will identify with," says Isha who admittedly hasn't ever faced that situation for real. "Never!" she says emphatically.
However, the actress reckons the real romance to watch out for in the movie is between Pradeep and Posani Krishna Murali. "Seriously, I'm not kidding. Posani is truly madly in love with him. You have to watch it to find out," says the actress who seems to have developed quite a liking for Hyderabadi food in particular.
Interestingly, it isn't the dum biryani that's her favourite pick. "I don't like the Biryani really. I love chutneys, button idly, pesarattu, podi, rasam... and gongura pickle, I just love it so much, I could marry the man who invented it," shares Isha who reckons "Hyderabad wins hands down when it comes to food in all of South India."
For a Punjabi raised in Mumbai, she seems to have fitted in quite well in the Malayalam industry. "Living in Mumbai you get to meet everybody from everywhere, so really don't have any problems fitting in anywhere," says Isha who happened to land in cinema by fluke.
Even as she was studying Economics at Xavier's College she'd begun modelling and had done over 40 campaigns when one of them landed her a chance to act in Thattathin Marayathu. "Jomon T John, the director of a fairness cream commercial that I did, was working as the cameraman for the movie, and he recommended me. So, yes I was trying to sell fairness cream and became an actress. We have to sell our soul in this industry sometimes," she jokes.
Isha shot to fame playing a traditional Muslim girl, Aisha. The movie went on to be a hit and she was slotted as pretty face to look out for. Though she's acted in nine films, she is hoping to make a name for herself as an actress of class. "I like the fact that people think I'm pretty, love the recognition and fame that my work has brought me...I have over 2 million fans on social media and, it's bizarre! But I love it. Hopefully when people are done with the pretty side of me, I hope do some real acting...I definitely want to be an actor someday," she says.
